Sikeston students cheer at a pep rally to send off the Sikeston boys basketball team to the Class 4 state semifinal game Thursday morning at the Sikeston Field House. The Bulldogs will play Vashon in the semifinal Friday at 6 p.m. at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, Mo.

Employees at Orscheln Farm and Home introduced Sikeston preschool students to some recent arrivals -- ducks, chicks and bunnies. The children had the opportunity to see the animals up close and learn about them.

HSRT Training

Members of the Homeland Security Response Team participated in an all-day monthly water training session Wednesday at the YMCA of Southeast Missouri in Sikeston. The team, which is comprised of members from Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Cape Girardeau Fire and Jackson Fire, is responsible for water rescues, and rescues with building collapses, and trench collapses throughout the Southeast Missouri region, according to Sgt. Derick Wheetley of Sikeston DPS. For example, the team assisted during the 2011 floods in Ripley County, and they've also made rescues on the Mississippi River. Wednesday's training focused on water rescue scenarios and familiarizing team members with their equipment, Wheetley said. Here, officers work on pulling a person to safety.
