Speakout
(Opinion ~ 09/14/19)
I see the “Red House,” or Green Meadows Retirement home on N. Kingshighway is undergoing some work, hopefully improvements, this August. I have to wonder though if the improvements will truly benefit the residents of the home and the surrounding neighborhood. Is the work just to bring the badly tattered building up to code? Watching over the past few months, I hope that the residents see a change this winter. When the men and women can be seen walking throughout the city in large winter coats during 100+ temperatures, I have to wonder how they are encouraged to dress and behave during dangerously cold months. There seems to be a lack of supervision with these people who are entrusting their end-of-life care to such a facility. As you drive by, you may see a person on hands and knees eating grass, or you may see a group of friends laughing on the porch. It just depends on the time of day.
