Sikeston High School seniors recognized for leadership, citizenship, scholarship

SIKESTON -- Darby Lynn Self and Julius Gia Hoang were named Sikeston High School Students of the Month for September during the 2016-2017 school year.

Sikeston Public Schools Foundation, which sponsors the monthly program, names a male and female senior each month. Character, leadership, service, citizenship and scholastic ability are criteria used to select the students.

Self is the daughter of Brian and Dana Self. She is an officer for Red Peppers and National Honor Society; editor of the yearbook; student leader for FCA; and a member of DECA and FBLA. In her spare time, she enjoys running, playing music (piano, violin, ukulele, guitar), painting and drawing.

Hoang is the son of Dinh Hoang and Yen Hoang. He is a member of FBLA, NHS, Skills USA and marching band. His hobbies include playing the trumpet, video games and tennis and learning piano.
