Widespread flu activity being reported nationwide

SIKESTON -- As many as 46 states are reporting widespread flu activity, but experts still recommend the flu vaccine for those who have not yet received it. Only four states -- Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire and New Jersey -- reported regional flu activity while Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands did not report, according to the most recent data by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Friday afternoon fire

Firefighters with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety work to extinguish a fire at 214 N. Handy St. Friday afternoon. The fire broke out at just after 1:30 p.m. and the cause of the fire was not known at press time.
