Not everyone believes that teachers deserve a raise. I hear all the time how teachers have had it so rough during the pandemic. I guess it was tough getting paid for over two months without having to work and then having their summer off. But then they did go back and have to deal with COVID protocols. Just like everyone else. Let’s stop making teachers martyrs. Yes, they have a tough job but a lot of people do.

On the road again: Summer is busy time for county highway department

NEW MADRID, Mo. - The list of summer projects is long for the New Madrid County Highway Department. Donnie Brown, county engineer, keeps track of all of them, moving the 18 full-time employees around the county where work needs to be done. “This is our busy time right now, for sure,” Brown said. “We are already doing our regular maintenance things - grading roads, spreading gravel.
