Speakout 8/12

I had a possum in my house about a week ago and I think if something that big got in maybe a snake could be in here hiding here somewhere. I just want to know if anyone out there can tell me how can you tell if a snake is in your house or not. Please tell me, I'm scared to death.

I have just read your article about Joseph Duncan. I agree with you on most if it. I think dying fast would be too easy for him. They should put him through some of that same torture he put that poor child through. If it was up to me I would vote to castrate all sex offenders.

If I have to sit through one more thing about preserving Mayberry when it comes to the city of Oran because they have to adhere to the laws that every small town in the United States has to adhere to. Then your paper decides to print an article about preserving Mayberry because these people don't want to go by the same laws as everyone else. I live in a small town, population 5,000, and we still have seat belt laws and we still get pulled over for speeding and we don't have an Andy Griffith in our sheriff's department. What is the fuss? This year is 2005 and everyone has to move ahead to the future whether you like it or not.

I want to call in about these yard sales that people have on Fridays and Saturdays. It is getting to where normal people don't even have a chance to go to a yard sale because all the dealers are going and stripping them of all the good stuff. They are giving little to nothing for it and then selling it for twenty times what they paid for it. Normal people just can't go in and get in a yard sale because the dealers are coming in an hour before opening time and staying there until opening time. It is just ridiculous. It is getting to where you got to walk over a bunch of dealers to get to a yard sale. I don't think it is right. You can go around to the junk stores and man they charge you an arm and a leg for a little bitty ol' something. But they got that little bitty ol' something in a yard sale for like 50 cents then sell it to you for $20 or $50. I just don't think it is right. If people keep selling to dealers I don't think there will be many yard sales left because I think normal people won't even go out there. They need to call the dealers if they have something they want to sell to them instead of holding a yard sale.

I just read your interesting article on martial arts, Thursday, Aug. 4. It was very good but I think you might have mentioned there are a number of other good martial art schools in this area.

I like to comment on the person who wrote in the other day and said those who don't believe in the war have apparently forgotten about 9/11. I don't think anything could be further from the truth. To most people the reason they oppose the war in Iraq is because it was not under the pretenses that we were told it was under. President Bush, Prime Minister Tony Blair as well as Secretary of State all claimed the war was being done to get at weapons of mass destruction from Iraq. Now, we discover they don't exist and may never have existed. Now the soldiers are left fighting a war that never seems to end. This person also states that the people who died in 9/11 died for no reason, sure, it was irresponsible deaths and they should not have died but also the soldiers who are fighting the war in Iraq right now are fighting a war they shouldn't have to fight. We should be fighting the war in Afghanistan, not Iraq, that is where the terrorists are supposed to be, right?
