Speakout 1/23

Friday, January 23, 2004

I'm calling about the deal that was in SpeakOut about Morehouse giving out Christmas baskets for senior citizens. I'm a senior citizen. I didn't get one, but would like to know where to sign up for next Christmas.

I read where one of Sikeston's finest residents, Raymond Wright had died. He and his wife are two of the nicest people I have ever met. I was so shocked when I learned he had died and that Sikeston has lost another good one. Sikeston still has a lot of lousy ones; it seems like we lose the good ones first.

Who pays?

I'm calling about the personal property assessment notice that was in the Jan. 7 paper. Did the taxpayers pay to have that woman's picture put in there? If so, I want that deducted from my personal taxes. I don't feel the taxpayers should have to pay to have her personal photo included in such a notice.

In reference to the Jan. 15 editorial, it looks like the Standard Democrat needs to reverse itself and start getting tougher on material put in SpeakOut. It would come as a welcome relief given the current decline in Sikeston's society, the brouhaha ha over the comments you choose to print would stop and you stuck with facts, limited to comments to compliments, praise and positive things that happen in our area. But you firmly believe we are in a society in a social decline. Stop using this avenue you have chosen and start making every effort to rid your paper of additional erosion to our area. A good starting point should be an effort on your part to remove the most inane use of newspaper space in our region. Do you honestly think we have potential visitors visiting this area to invest? Do you think they don't see the paper? It not only erodes potential companies' confidence in the citizens of this town, but you provide an avenue for just enough imbeciles to show off their ignorance. It's a shame. SpeakOut is an embarrassment and a black eye to any potential developments that may look to expand in the Bootheel.

I hope you Republicans are happy. They can't give enough jobs away to foreign countries, so now he's bringing them over here to take ours. The working class will never have anything as long as a Republican is president. Signed, Santa

This is to my family. When there is a death in the family, you should notify the rest of the family. I am through with you and this whole family.

Are Wendy Ray and Randy Ray of KFVS-12 related?

We had this question awhile back. Wendy Ray is Randy Ray's daughter.
