Your view: Thanks for help

The Youth Services Program at the New Madrid County Family Resource Center sponsored a jeans and coat drive. The drive started in November and ended Dec. 12. Thanks to the help of the many community members and the New Madrid County area schools, the drive was a great success. There were more than 40 community members who brought in donations and the New Madrid County Central Science Club, the counselors and the school nurses participated in the drive.

The coats and jeans were given to families on Dec. 13 at the Winter Bazaar at the center. With the help of the communities and schools, the Youth Services Program was able to serve 46 families in New Madrid County with the items donated.

We would like to send out a thank you to all of the community members and the New Madrid schools and we extend a special thank you to our adult volunteer, Michelle Wallace of Matthews, who helped to get the project started. We would also like to thank all the youth who helped with sorting and helping the families find what they needed.

The New Madrid County Family Resource Center would also like to thank everyone who made this year's Christmas Angel Tree Project a huge success. We will be able to purchase gifts for over 175 kids this year.

A special thanks goes out to the Bank of New Madrid, Evergreen Baptist Church in Marston and Wal-Mart for all the support in making this year special in the lives of children who are less fortunate. We have had a great time purchasing gifts and will enjoy taking them to the homes.

Volunteers are still needed to help deliver gifts. Any interested in helping is asked to call Tonya at (573) 748-2778.
