Woodrow Smith

PUXICO - Woodrow E. Smith, 76, died April 28, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Sept. 11, 1927, in Dudley, son of the late Andrew Jackson and Nancy Jane Shelby Smith, he lived in Puxico since 1978. A retired inspector for General Motors Auto Manufacturing Company in St. Louis, he was a life member of VFW Post 7822. He attended the Assembly of God Church for many years and was currently attending the First Christian Church in Puxico.

On Dec. 8, 1947, at Puxico, he married Nellie Ruth Ashbaugh who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Donnie Smith of Harrah, Okla.; two daughters, Joan Short of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jeannie Lovett of Puxico; one brother, Vaughn Smith of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Norma Dean Martin of St. Louis; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

One sister, Bernice Harty, preceded him in death.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico where VFW services will be conducted.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wiley McGhee of Puxico, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Puxico Cemetery.
