Speakout 8/22

Sunday, August 22, 2004

As far as the caller telling DPS to do something about people selling drugs on the corner of Prosperity and School streets, is anybody outside selling drugs keeping you from falling asleep at night or keeping you from getting the rest you need? What are the police going to do about it? They only have so many rights when it comes to people, anyway, so there's not much they can do about that.

This is for anyone who drives a vehicle. Take time to buckle your seat belt. Not only is it the law, but it could save your life. I've been reading in the newspaper where several people involved in traffic accidents have been ejected from their vehicles. If they had worn their seat belt, this may not have happened. Please, parents, tell your kids that if they don't buckle up, they won't be allowed to drive the car. Once you get used to doing it, it becomes automatic. I was one who never wore my seat belt, but since I started doing it, I just automatically buckle up when I get in my car. If you read the newspaper, you will see where people are ejected and get killed. If they had worn their seat belts, they may have had a better chance. So, please, everybody, buckle up!

Thank you, Morehouse. This is the best mosquito season we have ever had. I appreciate it. Thank you very much.

I know it's been a long time since the noise ordinance was passed and there are several signs on our street telling about the noise ordinance. However, these last few nights have been cool and we have been able to turn off our air conditioner and open our windows but couldn't sleep because of all the noise. When will these people ever learn? It has to be the same ones over and over making all this racket. Do they really have this much money to pay all these fines, or do they just not care? When is something going to happen and when is all this racket going to stop?

We are buying a house on Southwest Street and are trying to raise our children over here, but it is so noisy. We have to hear the racket from all these cars every night this week that it has been cool because we didn't want to run our air conditioner. We refuse to raise our kids over here if something can't be done about all the noise. And we shouldn't have to call the police every time a noise goes by. If something isn't done, we're just going to sell out and move.

I have a neighborhood problem and was just wondering if anyone else may have the same problem. We have some people who recently moved across the street. They have grown teen-age daughters. All they do is holler. They can see somebody a block away and will holler at them, and not with a nice voice (if you get my drift). One of them has a baby, maybe two of them have babies, and I'm sure more will be coming. I have asked them to please be quiet and lower their voice and not holler. But they read me the riot act because I am not their "Momma." Their parents are in the house but say nothing to them. Apparently it must be OK. They sit on their porches all day and then all night they are up and down the street, cussing and ranting and raving. Can anything be done? Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you handle it?
