SIKESTON - Bernice M. Carter, 78, died at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 18, 2003, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Born Nov. 27, 1924, in Canalou, daughter of the late Cliff and Lottie Ethyl Turner Dismuke, she was of the Baptist belief. Before her retirement, she had been a waitress for the Harris Drug Store Snack Bar and had also been employed by the Ramada Inn and Sikeston Convalescent Center.

On June 13, 1973, in Cape Girardeau, she married Roy L. Carter who preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1985.

Survivors include: two sons, Billy Black of Louisville, Ky., and Dennis Wethington of Sikeston; two daughters, Shirley Pease of Sikeston and Rosa Rita Perry of Pocahontas, Ark.; two brothers, Jack Dismuke of St. Louis and T.J. Dismuke of Caseyville, Ill.; five sisters, Hazel Evans of Sikeston, Ella Trousdale of Sedgewickville, Lavada Showmaker of Dupo, Ill., Margie Wright of Florissant and Mary Shevlin of Caseyville; and five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. Thursday until service time at 11 a.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Adams, pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
