Speakout (11/21)

Someone asked in SpeakOut if the United Way is a contributor to the American Civil Liberties Union. The answer is no. We have never supported the ACLU to my knowledge and they have never been a member of the United Way of Sikeston. - Glenna Shy, United Way campaign director

I would like to SpeakOut about the mail service in town. I live on Louise Drive in Sikeston and I have experienced on several occasions that the mailman has not run down my street or most commonly runs very late in the day. How is it that one street over from me (Illinois Avenue) I have seen the mailman delivering mail at 12:30 p.m. while on that same day mine has not been delivered until 7 p.m.? That is just too late. But more importantly, today my flag has been up all day. I noticed my next door neighbor's is flag up as well. It's now 7:30 p.m. and still no mail. It's not the first time either. I have been to the Post Office twice. On another occasion, one day I was standing in the front yard mowing when the mailman passed by. I was mowing so I didn't go to the mailbox right away, but when I did I was surprised to find a card that said, "We were unable to deliver your mail for signature was required and you weren't at home." I had to drive across town to pickup a letter that should have been handed to me. As a matter of fact, I was a little disturbed by it so I got in my truck and drove to the Post Office right then, only to be told my driver wasn't in yet and that it was unfortunate but I would have to come back tomorrow to pick it up. As for the complaint I made, they just said, "Oh I can't believe that would happen." What gives, Postmaster? Do we need more drivers? Or do we need better capable drivers, or maybe we need a more capable postmaster to manage things.

Outcome predicted

A few days ago I received a letter from two of the old dinosaurs of my party, Eagleton and Hearnes, urging everyone to stay with One-term Bob against the state auditor next year in the primary. Both of these gentlemen are out of touch with reality and better realize that Claire has a much better chance of winning next November against Blunt than One-term Bob.

Has anyone watched The History Channel's three-hour specials on JFK? It flat-out said his assassination was arranged by LBJ and his Texas oil company cronies, and was carried out by multiple shooters. The evidence they give is compelling.

If you get into trouble and have to go for medical treatment as an out patient, you are better off if you don't work. That way you don't have to pay. My husband has a good job and has to pay a lot. Maybe he's having to pay for those who don't have jobs. This is unfair. Everyone should have to pay and the price shouldn't be based on your monthly income. This just isn't right.
