MALDEN - Arnold Franklin Matthews, 79, died Feb. 11, 2003, at his home.

Born July 14, 1923, in Enola, Ark., son of the late William Franklin and Lela Cardin Matthews, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and member of the Church of Christ in Malden. He was a farmer and land grader in Southeast Missouri.

On Oct. 8, 1943, he married Carrie Louella Flowers who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Matthews of Malden; one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Stan Frazier of Branson; one sister, Flora Flowers of Modesto, Calif.; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy A. Matthews; one brother, Will Matthews; and six sisters, Gladys Griffin, Grace Palmer, Eva Bowie, Fannie Newkirk, Cora Adams and Ava Nell Weaver.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. Friday until service time at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Malden. David McElwain will officiate.

Graveside military rites will be conducted at Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.

Bradshaw Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
