Christmas activities abound to put area residents in the holiday mood

SIKESTON - Members of the First Baptist Church will present the 19th annual Living Christmas Tree this year. The performance, under the direction of Mike Nickelson, will run through Saturday starting at 7:30 p.m. and is set for 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at the church by calling 471-4122. Proceeds will be donated to the Standard Democrat's Community Christmas Campaign.

SIKESTON - The First United Methodist Church, 1307 N. Main St., will host its Living Christmas Scenes from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The free drive-through exhibit will feature live actors depicting events in the life of Jesus Christ.

SIKESTON - Throughout December members of the Bootheel Regional Art Guild will exhibit their work titled "Just In Time For Christmas" at the Sikeston Depot.

NEW MADRID - Three historic sites will welcome visitors during New Madrid's annual Holiday Open House and Candlelight Tours. The Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site, New Madrid Historical Museum and Higgerson School Historic Site will offer free tours from 6-8:30 p.m. Also free tours will be offered at the Hunter-Dawson State Site from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central Singing Eagles will host a Holiday Dinner Theater at 7 p.m. in the NMCC Commons. The theme of the evening will be "The Heart of Christmas," featuring many different styles of Christmas songs. Reservations are required and seating will be first come first serve. For ticket information call the New Madrid County Central High School at 573-688-2165.

NEW MADRID - The annual Winter Bazaar and Breakfast with Santa is set from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Madrid County Resource Center, 420 Virginia Ave., to raise money for the annual Christmas Angel Tree Project. Anyone who would like to donate items for the bazaar can deliver them to the center. Good used toys, Christmas decorations and household items will be accepted. Items to be sold during the bazaar will include arts and crafts, Christmas and household items and a variety of baked goods. Children can enjoy Breakfast with Santa from 8:30-11 a.m. and a raffle is set for 12:30 p.m. The Christmas Angel Tree Project serves the entire county by giving Christmas gifts to less fortunate children.

Dec. 17

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Senior Driving Tour.

Pick-ups will be at 6 p.m. at the Nutrition Center and Beverly Healthcare immediately following. The Chamber will take the senior citizens around town to view the Christmas decorations and then back to the nursing home for refreshments.

The Chamber reminds residents that the senior citizens look forward to this event and asks that all homes be lighted to give senior citizens something to look forward to.

Dec. 22

SIKESTON - St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church, under the direction of organist and choir master Harry Howard, will present a Community Messiah Singalong at 3 p.m. at the Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church, located at the corner of Allen Boulevard and Wakefield Street.
