Speakout 12/23

Thursday, December 23, 2004

In the alley of the 200 block of William Street (between William and Daniel streets), I have called the city at least three times. There are old tires, a hot water heater, old couch behind the house, garbage piled up behind the house, there's an old building with holes in the roof and coons, opossums and rats run in and out of it. I just don't understand why something can't be done about this. Please don't tell me to call the city because I've already called them three times.

I wonder how many churches in the area think you cannot be a Christian and be a Democrat. I think you can be a Democrat and also be a Christian. We don't have to agree with everything they stand for, but I'm sure Republicans don't always agree with everything their party stands for either. I want to see how many people will SpeakOut and let me know if they think you can be a Christian and also be a Democrat.

I would like to SpeakOut about the leaf collection in Sikeston. They did fairly well the first time they came around but this time when they came on Mimosa Street, they only picked up in the street. They didn't get the leaves between the sidewalk and the street except for one man, and they went up in his yard and helped him get his leaves out. I don't think that's fair to the rest of us who had our leaves at the edge of the street.

Call the Street Department at 471-2512.

I would say "You're welcome," but you never put anything in the paper that we call about. I am a Portageville Bulldog basketball concerned fan. We're concerned that your paper is going downhill. Your sports department is pitiful. You do not carry any kind of information, hardly at all, on any sports local. It's always something far off or something college or something pro. How about getting it together and putting local news in the paper now and then? We'd like to know who's playing where and we'd like to see the results at least in a day or so (not three or four days later, or never). Please! Your sporting department, get it together. Do you need to hire somebody? I think I'll take the job. Just call me at Portageville and I'll take the job. I am a concerned newspaper subscriber.

When will the school board and administration in Sikeston recognize there is a problem with mold in the Middle School building? If they would check the absentee list, talk with the parents of children who have breathing problems or talk to past and present teachers there, they would know there is something wrong in that building.
