Sikeston netters put up second straight shutout
SIKESTON - The Sikeston tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 9-0 victory against Charleston on Thursday.
It's the second straight match that Sikeston has shutout its opponent.
"I thought we played well again," said Sikeston head coach Brian James. "We've had three good matches this week. I think we're getting better and better. We just need to keep improving each time we go out."
In singles, Sikeston's Stephen Pobst beat Alex Peterson (6-3, 6-3); Adam Hahs beat Kyle Kemp (8-2); Ryne Vickery beat Lee Hess (8-3); Peter Jones beat Michael Rodriguez (8-1); Marc Leible beat Dave Boyer (8-3); and Chris Robey beat Steven Johnson (8-5).
In doubles, Pobst/Hahs beat Peterson/Boyer (8-0); Vickery/Jones beat Kemp/Hess (8-1); and Leible/Robey beat Rodriguez/Johnson (8-4).
"I think Charleston has a good team," said James. "They're young right now, but those top three or four guys are going to be around for a couple of years and they're going to be tough."
In junior varsity, Aaron Senter and Ben Jones were each singles winners. The two also teamed up for a doubles victory
