SIKESTON - Dr. E.A. Belden and family went to Columbia Friday to make arrangements to move their household furniture to Sikeston. The family is moving to the coroner of Dorothy and New Madrid.

ESSEX - Three members of the Richland FFA Chapter will receive the State Farmer Degree at Columbia April 26-27. Carroll Duckworth, Jimmy Ledbetter and Emery Oliver will be accompanied on the trip by their advisor, Lee Bloomfield.

SIKESTON - Much of the surrounding area was engulfed by a giant cloud of dust Monday that left a residue over everything. The dust storm was the result of blustery spring winds and freshly plowed fields. It was so dense drivers had to use headlights.


SIKESTON - Gov. Christopher Bond will visit Sikeston Wednesday on a swing through the state. He will be at Lambert's Cafe. Bond will be taking his case concerning legislative priorities to the people during the tour.

CHARLESTON - Henderson Ready Mix of Sikeston is rapidly demolishing the remaining structures on the former Charleston Junior High School property, making way for a new facility to replace the old high school building destroyed by fire in May 1991. The company's bid of $15,885 included the razing of two standing annexes, the former band building and a metal building housing the bus garage office, plus clearing of the property. Completion is anticipated by the end of this week.


NEW MADRID - The New Madrid City Council supports Option Five, one of six of Associated Electric Co. Inc.'s proposals for complying with the Clean Air Act Amendment of 1990 at their Central Missouri Thomas Hill Power Plant.
