Speakout 4/20

Friday, April 20, 2007

My family from Texas wants to come see my daughter graduate, we do have available tickets for them. They will not be able to make the trip due to the expense of losing close to a whole work week. Considering the 2007 graduation being on Tuesday, is it possible graduation be on a Friday for out of town/state people? Could this be a possible consideration for other years to come?

I heard through the grapevine that we recently lost another police officer here in Miner. I was just wondering when the council was going to finally wake up and smell the coffee and trying to end this revolving door that's been happening the past several years. At one time the city of Miner used to be the place to work, the best place to work. Over the past 10 years, it has not been the place to work. It's been a revolving door of officers in and out, in and out. Most of the tenure of the officers is less than a year. Why is that?

Why do I pay taxes in Scott County when the sheriff of Scott County allows three deputies to live in Mississippi County driving unmarked vehicles to and from home, using my tax dollars to pay for the gas? One deputy was allowed to move from Scott County back to Mississippi County. What kind of response time is that when needed? Deputies should live in the county that they work in. Is this why he is asking for more deputies to cover for ones that are moving out of the county?

I'm speaking out after the Virginia Tech massacres. I'm sure there will be lot of debate on gun issues. I'm sure one thing Americans will agree on is that non-

citizens should not be allowed to buy a gun in the United States especially after all the problems that have arose in the past several years from non-citizens and aliens in this country. I don't know an American who would disagree with a law that would disallow the purchasing of firearms by a non-citizen. I am very pro-

gun and a member of NRA.
