SIKESTON - Miss Janie Sue Balding of Sikeston, a former resident of Birmingham, Ala., has entered the Maid of Cotton contest conducted by the National Cotton Council. A singer, she has conducted her own radio program.

SIKESTON - An Elks Club in Sikeston is almost a certainty as temporary officers Co-Chairman Clem Beal, W. Raymert Miller, treasurer, and Fred Armstrong, a highly interested worker, checked the applications for membership. The committee approved 84 applications for memberships at the meeting last night, with 120 more to be checked for memberships having been received.

MORLEY - Scott County Central coach Danny Farmer calls it the killer instinct. And his Bravettes had it Monday, when SCC devastated Sikeston 90-30 in girls basketball.

SIKESTON - While most children are preparing for Super Bowl Sunday some area hardballers are practicing up for this year's baseball season. Using Matthews Elementary School, Adam Miller practiced his pitching during sandlot games on Sunday.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce will host the January luncheon Thursday at the Outlet Mall Community Room. The topic will be a "Meet the Candidates" forum. Those featured candidates will be the five candidates for Sikeston City Council. Each contender will be asked the same set of questions and will be given time to respond. Those candidates will be: Josh Bill, Joe Gooch, Lois McRill, Bill Mitchell and Mike Moll.
