Speakout 6/1

Sunday, June 1, 2003

For people who don't live in Blodgett but who would like to move there, I just want to let you know that your water bill in Blodgett is about half as much as your house payment. And people used to think Bertrand was bad because of the high water bill? Well, the water bill in Blodgett is ridiculous and something needs to be done about it.

I saw in the Standard Democrat where we have four code officers in Sikeston. Why have them when they won't enforce the code? I've been trying for over a year to get an eyesore cleaned up, with no success.

I am calling about "President honors heroes," I do support the war and our troops, but I'm really sick of hearing about how great our President is. Everywhere I turn I hear someone saying what a great man he is and all the great things he's done. But I haven't seen him do anything anybody else couldn't do. He's a politician, he's a man and nothing more.

I'm calling about what I read in SpeakOut. I recognize the incident on the shameful behavior. To this lady who said the fat lady was too lazy to walk, this lady had just had surgery and is not in good health. You had no business at all teaching a 15-year-old to practice backing up or whatever on the parking lot at Wal-Mart. Couldn't you have found a parking lot that wasn't full? We have country roads around here she could practice on where it would be a little safer.

It would be great if we could get a Target store here. I have talked with a lot of people who agree with me that it would be a great benefit to the community for jobs and all.

This is regarding the Sikeston baseball fund-raiser. I do not like it and I wish they would go back to the Sonic dollar or Burger King dollar or even a raffle. I would go door-to-door if I could and ask for money versus selling this trash they asked us to sell. I am not paying $50 if my son cannot sell it because I give to charity, and I am not paying $50 for this.

Once again, my child was not listed in the paper just because they didn't have a perfect batting score. This should end. I agree with the caller who said every hit counts.

This is to the man with the long hair in a ponytail and who has a big fat moustache. I was driving behind you on May 20 and you were at the corner of Malone and South Prairie streets and saw you literally beating a child with your fist. I called the police and, fortunately for you, they could not find you. But I am watching for you and I told them I will testify in court. I did see you do this, so I'll be looking for you and hopefully someone will intervene. Your children need to be taken away from you.

Why wasn't anything in the paper on May 22 concerning the drug bust, the meth lab raid that they had in the 200 block of William Street yesterday? Are you trying to cover up the drugs around here or do you think everybody is stupid?

Neither. As in any criminal case, we can't publish any information until it is released to us by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety or other law enforcement agencies investigating the crime. If they don't tell us anything, then we don't know what to tell our readers.
