Tennessee man charged with murder

CARUTHERSVILLE - A Tennessee man is facing murder charges in Pemiscot County.

At 10:28 p.m. Wednesday the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department received a report of a man being pushed off a bridge just west of Caruthersville at the intersection of Pemiscot County Roads 351 and 352. Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell reported the body of Benton S. Pierce, 50, of Dyersburg was found partially in the water along the bank of the ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 49-year-old Dyersburg man was taken into custody at the bridge and is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail. He is expected to be charged with second degree murder today by Pemiscot County Prosecutor Mike Hazel.

Greenwell said an autopsy will be conducted today on Pierce's body at the Mineral Area Hospital in Farmington.
