Speakout 1/18

Tuesday, January 18, 2005

I would like to thank the gentleman at Food Giant and the lady in produce. They really went out of their way to help me today.

To the person in the Jan. 10 SpeakOut, "Only one judge," you say you are a Christian. I am more than pleased. You say you are a Democrat and vote a split ticket, please don't say you are a Democrat. That is embarrassing to the party. If you are a Democrat, vote Democrat, not for the Republican Party. I am a Democrat and I vote Democrat every time. So should you.

Were Melanie Blunt's coat and hat real fur or fake? I noticed she wore a white fur hat and coat for the inauguration and I just wondered if it was real or not.

To the person who called in "Advice needed" and said they have had the same job for 22 years and owns their own home that needs work done on it but they are financially strapped, check into a grant. Check with FHA or something like that. My Mom got a grant for a new roof and she had enough money to redo her kitchen (and a grant, you don't have to pay back).

To the person who wrote in saying that he doesn't think people should be able to draw disability, well, let me tell you there should be a program out there for this. People get terminal cancer and can't support their family and Social Security wants to wait and see if the treatment he receives will help him while the family is having a financial crisis. I do agree some people get it that shouldn't but I didn't get to reach my retirement age because of a disease I would not wish upon my worst enemy, but if I worked many years and paid it in and I feel I deserve it because, without it, I couldn't survive and, believe me, it is less than half of what I would be making and it is hard to get by. Think of all the billions of dollars that taxpayers' money goes for that is not necessary. Like some of the big political parties they put on at Christmas and other times at the White House. The money they spend on clothes in one year would probably feed half of the starving kids in the U.S.

Where is the decency? When you say you're going to do something, do it. When you say you're going to pay someone the money you owe them, pay them. Liars, thieves, two-faced people, not to mention the closed-minded individuals that have nothing better to do than to sit up at the store and gossip about others - this is what makes up at least 50 percent of the population in Morehouse. No wonder this town is going nowhere. I am sure there will be some sort of childish remark in response to this "fuss of the day." I look forward to it.

If anyone would like to buy a used flute in good condition for a good price, please leave your number in SpeakOut.
