Your view: Photos wanted

Friday, March 26, 2004

When we first began to talk about the idea of doing A Pictorial History of New Madrid, we did not hesitate. We were excited about the idea and believed that others would be, too. People began to bring photos and we realized there is definitely interest in the project and people care about the history of our area.

We hope you will share with us photos of your family, your home place, your church and your schoolmates and, of course, your friends and neighbors.

We are receiving items for the book regularly and hope that you won't put off bringing in your photos and of course, your order.

A beautiful hardbound collector's edition will be printed on acid-free archival paper. This pictorial history will contain 96 pages from over 100 years in words and pictures, utilizing more than 250 photographs.

You can save by advance ordering. Your cost is only $19.95 per copy now. Only those who order in advance are assured of obtaining a copy, a gift you know will be appreciated and cherished. After publication, remaining copies will sell at $29.95 each. Delivery will be by the fall of 2004.

Everyone should have a few books he or she can just pick up and thumb through and on nearly every page, find something interesting. This book is fun. It is the history of New Madrid in pictures. That is why we hope a lot of people lend us a lot of old pictures - the older the better. We want your children and grandchildren to someday pick up a volume about New Madrid and just thumb through it and find something interesting.

Photos can be mailed to the New Madrid Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 96, New Madrid, MO 63869 or dropped by the office at 560 Mott St. in New Madrid.

Please write on the back of each photo all information pertaining to the photo (who, what, when and where) and your name and address. Orders can be made the same way. Simply send your check for $19.95 for each copy ordered to the above address. If you want your books mailed to you or someone else, make that information known and add $6.50 for each copy for postage.
