Sikeston golfers place 8th in state

BOLIVAR -- Sikeston's golf team fired a solid second round in the state tournament on Tuesday, finishing in eighth place overall.

The Bulldogs finished with a 333 on Tuesday, moving up three spots in the overall standings with a two-day score of 663. Excelsior Springs won the tournament with a 635, followed by Carthage at 644 and Westminster Christian at 647.

Individually, Sikeston junior Matt Bain had a banner day, checking in with a 74. Added in with his first-round score of 84, Bain finished in 19th place overall.

Sophomore E.C. Atchison fired a 79 on Monday and an 83 on Tuesday to tie for 23rd. Senior Tanner Fritz placed 43rd overall with an 82 on Monday and an 83 on Tuesday.

Sophomore Martin Schaefer came in 90th place with an 85 on Monday and a 91 on Tuesday. Senior Matt Hon took 113th with an 87 on Monday and a 100 on Tuesday.

Dexter took 13th place overall with a final team score of 677.

Tyler Holden led the way in 23rd place with an 82 on Monday and an 80 on Tuesday. Ryan Jackson came in 37th with an 81 on Monday and an 83 on Tuesday.

Chad Galloway placed 83rd with an 85 on Monday and a 92 on Tuesday.

Michael Williams fired an 88 on both days to finish 90th. Andrew Stuever came in 113th with a 95 on Monday and a 92 on Tuesday.

Chillicothe's Kyle Marcolla was the state champion, scoring a 71 on Monday and a 74 on Tuesday. Hillsboro's Jesse Helms took second with a 73 on the first day and a 76 on the second.

Pleasant Hill's Clay Ederer took third with a 75 and a 76.
