Barbecue was big success

Sunday, September 5, 2004

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the 10th Annual Redneck Barbecue. I would also like to thank our trophy and prize money sponsors Taskmaster Components and Louis Griffin. We had a number of volunteers and businesses help with manpower and donations making it a success and the Chamber appreciates their kindness and support.

Also I would like to thank Pansy Glenn with the Sikeston-Miner Convention and Visitors Bureau for once again making the arrangements for our Kidnapped Family. Our lucky family from Illinois enjoyed the hospitality and, of course, judging the barbecue contest and attending the rodeo. In fact, they had so much fun word has already spread and we have had an inquiry from their hometown from a group who would like to come to the rodeo and barbecue next year.

The Kidnapped Family is a great marketing avenue for the Sikeston/Miner areas and it is our pleasure, with the help of the CVB, to make sure our visitors have a good time. It was busy day with kids games, the Redneck Dog Show, craft show and "Chicken Chunkin'" contest in addition to the barbecue contest itself.

For those of you who made it out, I hope you had a great time. If you missed it make plans to attend next year's event on Rodeo Saturday.

As for what's next, the SACC staff and volunteers are now busy working on our next annual event - the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Business Golf Classic. The Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Sikeston Country Club. We will serve a light lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. with a shotgun start for the four-person scramble scheduled for 1 p.m. It is a great afternoon of golf and networking with area business leaders. For more information about the classic contact the Chamber office at 573-471-2498.

It is also time to begin work on our fourth edition of "Images of Sikeston" magazine. We will have photographers and the magazine editor in our community over the next few months. If you have not seen our magazine come by the SACC offices and pick one up. We are pleased to offer this magazine free of charge thanks to the support of our advertisers. The magazine is used in our relocation packets, business prospect information and as tourist information. It is also available to area residents.

For more information about SACC special events or SACC membership, please contact us at 573-471-2498 or go to our Website at www.sikeston.net.
