Joseph Adkins

MOREHOUSE -- Joseph Elvin Adkins, 83, died July 21, 2005, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Nov. 3, 1921, in Panama, Okla., son of the late Milem T. and Sarah Jane Anderson Adkins, he had been a resident of Morehouse since 1923 and was a retired farmer. He served in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II.

On Nov. 20, 1942, in Grayridge, he married Esther Jewell McGuirt who preceded him in death on July 28, 2002.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Verlin Adkins.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Polly Adkins of Portageville; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Freddie Copeland of Lilbourn; one sister, Opal Jackson of Norco, Calif.; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse where services will be at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Bryan Smith of New Madrid will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston.
