SIKESTON - New teachers were employed at a meeting of the Sikeston Board of Education Monday night. They are Miss Lee Magill of Cape Girardeau, who will teach math; Miss Mary Lorea Turner of Chaffee, who will teach English and social studies; and Miss Betty Trickey of Cape Girardeau, who will teach in the fifth and sixth grades.

SIKESTON Caleb Smith, Sikeston civic leader and real estate merchant for many years, has been elected as a director of the Missouri State Chamber of Commerce it was announced this morning.

SIKESTON - The Outstanding Southern Missouri Citizens Award was presented to E.P. Coleman by Congressman Paul C. Jones last night at the Missouri Cotton Producers meeting. The Meritorious Service Award to Agriculture was presented to Jackson Hunter for his leadership as president of the Missouri Cotton Producers.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Public School Orchestra Program will present its annual Spring Concert t Monday in the Sikeston High School cafeteria.

EAST PRAIRIE - A mock tornado drill under the direction of the Civil Defense has been scheduled for Saturday at the East Prairie High School, according to Jack Husk, civil defense director. The simulated exercise will be conducted from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. at the high school.

SIKESTON - The Scott County Unit of the American Cancer Society will host an "Afternoon Tea" from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Robert A. Dempster, 226 Kingshighway.

SIKESTON - Special veterans groups are preparing a four-foot decorative retaining wall at the Veterans Park for the dedication of the static tank display on Memorial Day. Jiggs Moore, Blair Moran and Tom Austin were among workers leveling off the lower bricks on the wall. Committee members are currently working on brining a F4J-Phantom 2 jet to the park.
