Speakout 5/5

Monday, May 6, 2002

It's pretty sad when coaches laugh and make jokes at the players when they lose a game. I also think it's sad when baseball coaches tell people and students that their school team stinks. These boys have played ball since Little League and play every summer. These coaches are football coaches and know nothing about how to play the game. They have humiliated the boys so bad that they hate going to the fields to play. These boys have lost respect for the coaches, and so have the parents. So, New Madrid, tell us how you're going to win any games with coaches like this.

I have a suggestion for all these guys around here who are wearing necklaces and earrings. Just put a dress on and be done with it.

I live north of Sikeston and every time I pass the new school out there, it just amazes me they don't care enough about it to maintain the grounds. The weeds are getting higher than the flowers and things they have out there around the signs. Why can't they keep this mowed? I realize there's been a lot of raining, however, other people mow their lawns even though it's wet.

I would just like to thank Jolene, Betty and the guy who signs the checks for the Foster Grandparents Program, for the good breakfast we had April 26 at Noranda and for all the good things they do for Foster Grandmothers. Noranda in New Madrid donates a lot of money for organizations, at least to the Foster Grandparents Program.

I'm so glad Missouri is cracking down on littering, because that includes Sikeston. Sikeston is one of the worst for doing this. I have to go out in front of my house every day and pick up trash when passers-by throw it out. Sometimes it comes right into my driveway. I can remember when we had signs up years ago and there was a $500 fine for littering. You didn't see littering like you do today. What's wrong with putting those signs back up? Maybe that would help.

How to be inconsiderate

I hope you people think it's having fun telling lies on others all the time. Every time you hear something, you repeat it without knowing if it's the truth or not.

I'm speaking out about the Your View column in the paper. Since when did you start printing Your View letters from people who don't have the guts to sign their names. In the April 29, you printed a letter from "A concerned citizen of Sikeston" entitled "Tighten the belt." Why would you print a letter from somebody who doesn't enough strength in their beliefs that they won't sign their names? I would strongly encourage you to hold to a guideline of requiring signatures on letters and not giving a public voice to people who don't have the guts to sign them.
