Looking Back in Time at Oct. 14

SIKESTON - Announcement of the appointment of Miss Isabel Hess as nutrition chairman of the Scott County Chapter of the Red Cross was made by Chairman John Reiss at a meeting of the executive board of the agency at the high school building Friday. Mrs. O.E. Wright will serve as chairman of the program in Sikeston.

SIKESTON - Before departing for the II Vatican Council, the Most Rev. Ignatius J. Streeker, S.T.D., made several changes to pastors, administrators and assistants. Among the changes is that of the Rev. Amel Shibley, assistant at St. Lawrence Parish, New Hamburg, to be assistant at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Sikeston. The Rev. John E. Wells, who is the assistant there now, will be assistant at the Immaculate Conception Parish in New Madrid.

SIKESTON - Sen. Robert Dole of Kansas was in Sikeston this morning for a fund-raising benefit for incumbent Bill Emerson. A humorous speaker, Dole related to the audience his pride in the fact that he receives more phone calls from the White House than any other member of the Congress. "My wife works for the President. ... I'm glad one of us made it to the White House."

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Firefighters Association recently made a donation to the Scott County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Representing the association, PSO Bob Davis presented the donation to Richard Dale, administrative director of the local Red Cross.

SIKESTON - Mark and Karen Odle are the parents of a daughter, Nicole Odle, born Oct. 3, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
