Oran girl dies in fire

CAPE GIRARDEAU - An Oran teen sustained fatal injuries in an early morning house fire today.

According to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, the fire started at 3:57 a.m. inside a house at 513 Washington that had been converted into an apartment.

The fire was reported by an occupant on the first floor who was awakened by his dog. The resident saw smoke coming through the ceiling and called authorities.

According to reports, the fire started on the second floor in a small area near the bedroom. Although the fire was quickly extinguished, discovered near the front bedroom window was the body of 17-year-old Amanda Robinson.

Although reports indicate the fire does not appear to be suspicious, it is under investigation.

The body is at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
