Armed robbery suspect arrested

SIKESTON -- A Sikeston man has been arrested in connection with two armed robberies at Casey's Convenience Store.

According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Director Drew Juden, after an extensive investigation, Jerry Lee Summers, 47, of 106 Jaycee, was arrested Tuesday evening on an arrest warrant pertaining to the robberies.

The first robbery occurred on Nov. 18 when a black male wearing a dark colored trench coat and wearing a ski mask entered Casey's with a handgun at about 9:30 p.m. He assaulted one of the clerks by striking her in the face with a fist and then demanded the store's cash from the other clerk. After getting the money, he left running west from the store. The clerk was treated for minor injuries.

A second robbery occurred at Casey's on Nov. 25 at around 6:15 p.m. when a black male wearing a hooded sweatshirt, jacket and green face mask produced a gun and demanded the store's money before fleeing on foot.

In both cases the suspect fled with an undetermined amount of money.

Summers has been charged with first degree robbery and armed criminal action and is currently in the Scott County Jail. His bond was set at $500,000. Summers is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 7.
