Your view: Stop the damage

Thursday, May 19, 2005

This letter is regarding the Missouri State Highway Department. It concerns eighteen wheel trucks and their drivers.

Many of the guard rails around over passes are being continually damaged because some truck drivers don't allow enough distance for the rear wheels of their trailer to clear the guard rail.

I have a suggestion for a simple solution that could possibly solve or at least reduce the incidences of damaged guard rails. MoDot could paint a stripe the correct distance around these corners along with a sign telling the drivers to follow the painted stripe. The truck drivers could follow the painted stripe with their left front wheel staying clear of the guard rail. This would be an inexpensive plan to minimize the damage to the guard rails.

Sincerely,

Henry D. Coffer
