BENTON - T-Sgt. James A. Schott, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Schott of Benton, is back in Miami Beach for a new assignment after being in the South Pacific for 28 months. He is an aircraft mechanic and has received two Presidential Citations.

SIKESTON - Marks and Stearns Food Mart was robbed last night when thieves came through the roof near a ceiling heater and stole around $600 and some merchandise.


SIKESTON - The opening bids for the new Canvas Production addition was made Wednesday in the city hall with three bids having been received. The lowest of the three bids was the Ryan Construction Co. of Sikeston with a bid of $71,767 for the 220x80-foot addition.

DEXTER - The strawberries are ready. To celebrate, Dexter residents have planned a variety of events for their annual Strawberry Festival Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

SIKESTON - Helen Malin Reuber signed copies of "As I Remember It," a book about her life in mid-1900s Sikeston. The book-signing reception was conducted Sunday at the Sikeston Public Library.


SIKESTON - Students at SEMO Christian Academy recently had Hawaiian Day, where students and teachers dressed in leis, grass skirts and other Hawaiian attire. It sure was cute.


NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central High School's Class of '94 will have five valedictorians. Those students who have maintained a 4.0 grade point average are: Shannon Blunt, Jodi Glaus, Andrea Nelson, Elizabeth Retz and John Spitler.
