Mike Jensen, I agree with you 100 percent on your editorial of Sept. 5, "Parenting is a key to school success." If parents are too lazy to get out of bed and get their kids off to school, the kids don't have too much of a chance in this country and we have way too many of those kinds of parents.

The loss of little Kristen Harris is a tragic loss to our community. I am not a black man, but I also lost a child in a traffic accident.

It really is sad that nobody is taking into consideration of the feelings of the bus driver. I've known this girl since she was 15 years old. She is married, has never done drugs and is a very respectable mom. People need to consider what she is going through and what she will be going through for the rest of her life.

If it wasn't so ridiculous, it would be laughable. Whoever spends their time every day running down Republicans doesn't sound like the elevator goes all the way up. Economy was going down long before George W. Bush came in. It wasn't his fault 9-11 happened. bin Laden planned this for years. As for wasting money, the Democrats are the ones with their hand-outs and you should be glad we have a decent, moral cabinet up there. Have mercy if we had Gore in office. All your so-called president did was take care of Monica and give everything to China. Look who you're defending, Clinton, Gore, Daschle, Lieberman, creepy Carnahan and our worthless Gov. Holden.

When are you going to get the crossword puzzle straightened out? For the past week or more, it has been messed up. It is not all there.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We had not received any complaints until now. We looked over the past week of papers and found the "mess up" that you called about and are now trying to find the cause of the problem to correct it.

I would like to say how proud I am to be employed by Unilever and Good Humor-Breyers. On Wednesday prior to the time of the terrorist strike against the US, the entire plant in Sikeston and indeed all of the plants of Unilever in North America were completely shut down. An announcement was made over the intercom about the tragedy that had occurred exactly one year ago and a moment of silence was observed. This must have cost the company thousands of dollars, but it certainly meant a lot to the Good Humor-Breyers employees here in Sikeston. Thank you Unilever and Good Humor Breyers.

What a great country we live in that when we are in need, you can get hand-outs such as food stamps and help with medical expenses, but New Madrid County has to be the best. "Why?" you might ask. Because, working for New Madrid County is the only place of employment where you can get good benefits and decent pay plus a vehicle to drive back and forth to work and use to go anywhere you need to go, such as other states or home in Wappapello. Just the other day I passed a New Madrid County truck pulling a load of cattle out by Zalma. I thought the county highway department worked on the country roads, not working with livestock. All of this flusters me to know that all the taxes that I pay in go for these men to do their own personal business. Maybe the county should take a closer look around the homes of these men and see what our tax money is paying for. You could be surprised as to what your money is going for, besides gas for personal trips.
