Skeletal remains identified
POPLAR BLUFF (AP) -- Skeletal remains found last fall near a county road in the Missouri Bootheel have been identified as those of a Campbell man missing for nearly nine years.
Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said the remains are believed to be those of Trenton ''Terry'' Akridge, who was reported missing July 9, 1993, as the annual Peach Festival was winding down in Campbell. Police and volunteers scoured the area's countryside at the time but found no trace of him.
The remains weren't found until last fall, when a hunter found the skeleton in a field off a county road near Campbell.
There were no indications of trauma at the time of death.
''There are still a lot of unanswered questions,'' Sheriff Holder said. ''We still don't know the cause of death. The case will remain open and we will continue to follow-up on any information or leads that we get.''
