SIKESTON - Sikeston High School's Bulldogs will go up against a team at East Prairie this Friday night. East Prairie previously defeated Ste. Genevieve, which has eight lettermen back for this season's tussles.

SIKESTON - Young people from the sixth and seventh grade will gather at the Sikeston Country Club Oct. 2 to begin a series of 18 lessons in ballroom dancing. Practicing courtesy toward each other and all forms of correct social behavior will be a part of each lesson.

PORTAGEVILLE - The New Madrid County Reorganized School District R-1 School Board has by unanimous vote decided to name the newly constructed school the Charles Pikey Jr. Elementary School.


SIKESTON - Pam Layton, 14-year-old daughter of Bonnie Layton of Sikeston and Larry Layton of Dexter was crowned Junior Miss Sikeston Thursday night by Missouri State Auditor James Antonio. First runner-up was Katherine Blanton and second runner-up was Lynne Harper.

SIKESTON - The 47th Annual American Legion Cotton Carnival's Cotton Top King and Queen are King Garrett May and Queen Rosanna Williams. Garrett is the 4-year-old son of Alfred and Tanya May of Sikeston. Rosanna is the 6-year-old daughter of Danny and Regina Williams of Essex.


SIKESTON - In an effort to replace a 35-year-old fire truck, the Department of Public Safety is considering bids on a new pumper. If approved, this new pumper would be put into the front-line DPS operation. Being retired is an open cab fire truck built in 1956.
