Speakout 11/4

Monday, November 5, 2001

For the record, Mr. Slumlord, 12 jurors also found O.J. Simpson not guilty. Facts are, two young girls' statements were taken, one being a granddaughter. This can be verified by the judge and state prosecutor in this case. Non-believers need to call.

I'm calling about the food pantry in Sikeston by the River Birch Mall. I noticed there was a pretty long line out there today. How can I help? Can I donate food or do you know what's needed? Especially with the holiday season coming up.

The Sikeston Community Canned Food Drive is set for Nov. 5-16 at all Sikeston Public Schools, Firstar Bank, Good Humor-Bryers and the Standard Democrat for non-perishable food items. Food and bath soap can also be dropped off at Tanner Street Church of God and Wesley United Methodist Church. These items will be distributed to needy families during the annual Sikeston Community Christmas Campaign in December.

To the person desiring fire wood and called my number, I still have the wood and will deliver to your home. Just call me again at 471-4913.

Editor's note: The phone number responding to firewood requests in the Oct. 31 SpeakOut edition of the Standard Democrat was incorrect. The correct number is 471-4913. We regret the error.

This is to the citizens of Miner. You may or may not know you have an election coming up Nov. 6 (a special election) that the board of alderman may now appoint the police chief instead of having us elect one. You may or may not know that every time you change a board member that you will get a new chief. Go and vote, but vote the way you want.

To all of our veterans, we give thanks to all of you for the freedom you fought to give us. Without your courage and love for the USA we would not have the freedoms you have so unselfishly given us. I pray for all POWs and MIAs that they will be brought back to our homeland and be forever on American soil. The symbols of our country, the red, white and blue in our flag and the eagle will always show the spirit that our veterans so valiantly fought and kept. In another time, the terrorism that we are now facing, yet another part of our armed forces are giving 100 percent to our country. Thanks to all of you. And remember, all Americans, the last four letters in "America" are "I can." We have in the past and we will in the future and in the times ahead. I can, we all can. It's important to remember the veterans of past wars and those who are battling in the countries bin Laden rules. They can, we can, I can. God bless you. God bless the USA.

I am responding to the SpeakOut call where someone is looking for pigeons. You can have mine free. Call me at (573) 683-4308.

Years back, there was a nut cracker by Daisey. It was one of the best. We have a couple of them in the family that need new parts. Do they still make the nut crackers? Or where could one get parts?

I would like to know why the Standard Democrat bags the newspaper in the orange plastic waterproof bags but don't tie the ends of them up and every time it rains, you get a wet paper.

We try our best, but with the last two rains being especially heavy, sometimes our best is not enough. However, if you have a wet paper, call 471-1137 before 11 a.m. on Sunday or by 6 p.m. daily and we will get a dry one to you. Thanks for your comment.
