Authorities locate meth lab

TALLAPOOSA - Law enforcement officers halted the production of methamphetamine in a working meth lab early today.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., deputies from the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department and the Tallapoosa Chief of Police Don Deprow conducted a raid on a shed behind a Tallapoosa residence. A working meth lab was discovered in the shed, according to New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens.

Officers took one person in custody. He is being held in the New Madrid County jail pending the filing of formal charges.

Agents from the Bootheel Drug Task Force seized the meth lab along with an undetermined amount of methamphetamine.
