CHARLESTON - A.S. "Alfie" Brown, 79, died at 6:35 p.m. Sept. 14, 2001, at his home.

Born July 25, 1922, at Charleston, son of the late A.S. and Ora J. Johnson Brown Sr., he had lived his entire life in Charleston where he was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a landowner, a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.

On Aug. 24, 1947, he married Barbara Jane Parker who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Sallie Goodin of Charleston and Sheila Whaley of Alcoa, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Elbert M. Brown; and four sisters, Frances Gathings, Dorothy Hearnes, Beechie Brown and Virginia Morrow.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday with the Revs. Gerald Collier, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston and Gerald Penn, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston, officiating.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jackie Hailey, Larry Brazel, Billy Watson, Darrell Watson, Rick Reed and Brandon Shands.
