I read today that Missouri has funded a World War II award program with $3 million. The years have come and gone since WWII and there are not too many of us left. I was discharged Dec. 15, 1945, after 12 major battles in the South Pacific. I was 20 years old. I would have very much welcomed a state bonus of any size as a veteran. Don't offer me a piece of metal on a string now. I don't want it.

I visited the Middle School to have lunch with my child. I never heard such language - and the screaming! They acted like they were outside; so loud I couldn't hear my child speak. How can you people let this go on? I felt sorry for the lunch ladies that work so hard to have good meals for them and this is the way they appreciate it. That's a laugh. These children are out of control back there and it should be stopped.

Since the government has been trying to put our Social Security money into the stock market and also into these high-risk deals, I've got a little money in the stock market now and if it goes broke, do you think the government would give me a little money like they did the railroads and farmers and these people who don't do too good? They should, shouldn't they? They should give it to me just like they do anybody else because I put my money in the stock market and it didn't no any good. I would think about this pretty good because they're wanting to put our Social Security money in the stock market.

Am I the only one who hasn't seen Jesse Jackson on TV since Sept. 11? I know there are a lot of Muslims in his organization. Where has he been?

I was at a restaurant the other day and saw a van with a bumper sticker that read, "Honk if you haven't slept with Clinton." I didn't honk. I'm a Democrat and proud of it. He might have been flirting with another woman, but he didn't have sex with her. All presidents have lied or have had an affair even while they're president. At least he wasn't chasing after another man. At least he was chasing a woman.

In response to the SpeakOut article that said there should be a law about wild cats and stray cats in this town, if people would spay or neuter their animals there wouldn't be so many strays. There is only one animal control officer with 50,000 stray animals in this town. He can't do it all. If there's a stray cat getting into someone's trash and then there's a big dog out chasing children, where do you think he's going to go? If you want help getting it trapped, then buy or rent a trap, put them out and then take the pet to the local shelter or to a vet. Don't expect one person to do it all.
