Speakout 8/4

Wednesday, August 4, 2004

I have a complaint about the Doonesbury column in the Standard Democrat. It looks like 38 other papers around the nation have dropped it and I sure wish the Sikeston Standard would drop it as well. It's nothing but a left-wing, humorless piece of propaganda.

I would like to report the worst-ever customer service I received. It was during the night shift at a Sikeston fast-food place on July 23. It was late, so we went through the drive-through. My wife ordered a value meal and I ordered a double cheeseburger and a drink. After they gave us our food, my wife noticed that there was only one burger in the bag. There was nobody in the window, so I honked a couple of times, knocked on the window and couldn't get anybody's attention. There wasn't anybody remotely around. I didn't even see anybody anymore. I did this for two or three minutes. Finally, another car came through the drive-through and the worker finally came back up. When I got back to the window, I told the lady there was only one burger and tried to tell her what we didn't get. She said, "We made the burger and we put it in your bag." I just looked at her and showed her the bag and told her there was only one. I told her I wasn't trying to cheat her out of a burger; I just wanted the food I paid for. She said, "I'm trying to figure out what you did with it." I told her she could come search our vehicle. "No, I'm not a cop. I'm not going to search your vehicle." I asked for her name and she wouldn't give it to me. I asked to speak with the manager and she said she was the manager. So I told her I would call the company's franchise hotline and she told me to go ahead. We finally left. That was the worst customer service we have ever received. It cost $10 and we didn't get what we paid for.

I would like to SpeakOut about the way children are raised today. The parents have them and want the grandparents to raise them for them. There is no correction, they never say "Yes, ma'am" or "no ma'am." They're being raised like they think you're afraid of them.

To the people who think tipping has gone from 10 percent to 15 percent to 20 percent, God only asks for 10 percent when you tithe. So I think I'll just keep tipping God because he never increases his prices.

Highway 114 west of the railroad tracks in Sikeston to Highway 60, west of Morehouse, is the most dangerous highway in Southeast Missouri. It is dished out all the way and when it rains, water stands from 1- to 6-inches deep on some edges. School buses and SWS buses are a large part of the traffic. It should be resurfaced before come children are killed. If you have questions, talk to bus drivers, postal delivery, police, highway patrol or drive it - carefully and slow.

I don't know what it is about this town, but there are so many people out here who think they have nothing to do but to spew incorrigible, intolerant trash about people that is totally untrue, and we know it. This is to the person who has called our office at our facility, trying to find information about employees. First and foremost, let me warn you, we are not going to put up with it. You may have done it at other places our employees worked and may have gotten by with it. It's not going to happen here. We know who you are (we're not stupid). We have telephone ID. We know all about everything this employee has gone through the past few years and we aren't going to put up with it. How would you like us to call your company? We aren't going to put up with it. We have contacted the proper authorities and we will prosecute, make no mistake. This is your fair warning to cease immediately. We know the hell this person has gone through these last few years. This person has been our employee for awhile and we know the stuff you are spewing is not true, there's not an ounce of truth in it and if you cannot control your personal life, that's your personal problem. But to you and your friends, I would suggest this cease and that it cease now. Because we know who you are.
