I Was There

When the attack came at Fort Necessity,

I was there.

When the Redcoats fired on us at Lexington,

I was there.

In the blizzard with Washington crossing the Delaware,

I was there.

With the brave men alongside Colonel Travis at the Alamo,

I was there.

On the battlefields of Gettysburg, Shiloh and Bull Run,

I was there.

In the bloody trenches fighting outside of Paris,

I was there.

ON Wake, Midway and Iwo Jima,

I was there.

On Omaha and Utah beaches at Normandy,

I was there.

At Pusan, Seoul and the landing at Inchon,

I was there. From DaNang and Saigon to the Mekong Delta,

I was there.

When the Dominican Republic needed our help,

I was there.

Removing Saddam and his troops from Kuwait,

I was there.

Restoring and maintaining peace in the Balkans,

I was there.

When terrorists prey on Americans,

I'll be there to protect our way of life.

I am the American veteran,

I pay the ultimate price to guard your freedom.

Honor me this Veteran's Day,

Sunday, Nov. 17, 2001.
