SIKESTON - Sikeston Boy Scouts have collected more than 17,000 pounds of waste paper in a continuing campaign to make money for their troops and at the same time further national defense.

SIKESTON - The National Cotton Council announces the appointment of William F. Sikes of Sikeston to its committee on Utilization Research and A.L. Story of Charleston to its committee on Production and Marketing for 1962.

SIKESTON - Morehouse reportedly now has the first and only large-capacity fuel alcohol plant in Missouri licensed for production. The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms recently conducted an on-site inspection and granted the plant a permit to produce over 500,000 gallons per year.


SIKESTON - The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Sikeston at the First United Methodist Church from 1 to 6 p.m. today.

CHARLESTON - Discussion on the formation of a Regional Water District and a decision to advertise for bids for a new highway department building were among items of business Thursday before the County Commission.


DEXTER - The Sikeston High girls led Dexter for the better part of three quarters before falling apart and losing to the Lady Bearcats 59-44 Thursday night. "They looked like a totally different team," Sikeston coach Barbara Ice said of her ball club.


SIKESTON - The Christmas season officially began with the fifth annual lighting ceremony. Lighting the tree at American Legion was State Rep. Dennis Ziegenhorn . The Victory Baptist Church Choir performed.
