SIKESTON - A total of 33 employees of the F.W. Woolworth Company store in the office of the Scott County Milling Company and of the Sikeston Standard has joined the ranks of employees taking out hospitalization protection with group Hospital Service.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - David E. Blanton Jr. spoke to the Rotary Club on his visit to Europe. Blanton told club members he was most impressed with West Germany's rise in politics and the military as well as French politics.

20 years ago

SIKESTON - An argument at a pool hall sent four people, including two Sikeston DPS officers, to the hospital. Two men were fighting, with one man being stabbed and the other shot. The officers suffered pulled muscles during a scuffle. All four were treated and released at the hospital.

SIKESTON - With the onset of spring, Southeast Missourians will see the onset of several local road construction and road resurfacing projects by the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission. The contract for the construction of three bridges and extension of one box culvert along Highway 60 from Sikeston to Morehouse has been awarded at a cost of $1,617,174.60.


CHARLESTON - Commending the areawide effort for enterprise zone designation, Mike Heimericks, coordinator for the enterprise zone program of the Department of Economic Development, heard o negative input at Wednesday evening's public meeting. The hearing moves the classification one step closer. On completion of the application now in progress, the application will be reviewed by the DED director, then presented to the legislative oversight committee comprised of six senators.
