Speakout 7-21

Sunday, July 21, 2002

The finance companies that lend money to people, some elderly, charge an outrageous amount. Some don't know what the charges are. They send out one statement for one amount, not where all the extras are added so they can keep you coming back. I feel something should be done. The banks charge less. To me, it is one of the worst things that has happened to some who cannot read the fine print. The companies are on every corner. Please leave it in the paper where I can write about these rip-offs.

I am calling about a local business. Every time I try to cross the highway right there, they always have a shed or cars or something blocking my view. I do not appreciate this and wish they would stop. I'm afraid this could cause me or someone else to have a wreck.

Sorry, caller. We cannot print the name of the business you called about. You should contact the owner or manager of the business and voice your concern.

This is to the fellow who was griping about a restaurant north of Sikeston that charges 43 cents for a glass of water. Go to a grocery store on Main Street in town, buddy. They charge you 67 cents for a big glass of water with ice. How about that?

I read in Sunday's paper where it said to call Charter Cable for service. I've had snow on my TV for the last couple of weeks. I thought it was my TV. I was planning to take it to a repair shop or go buy a new TV. I had no idea that this could be coming from my cable. I've never been satisfied with Charter. I've had cable for 10 years with them. Thanks for putting that in the paper. I'm going to call them Monday and see if it is in the cable.

I'll tell you what, Mr. Montgomery. Let's do a little horse trading. I live over here on Bonifield off Smith Street. We'll take the Scott County Health Department if you'll take this junkyard we have over here. I figure that will be an even trade since the owner lives over in your neighborhood.

I'm calling about the SpeakOut article concerning the health department. It should be located where everybody can get to it. There is a huge, humongous empty Kmart building. Why can't they use that? Everyone goes to the grocery store and to Wal-Mart in a cab. You will be in the closest area for those who have to ride in a cab. I don't know how big the health department has to be, but that would be plenty big enough.
