Junior varsity football team wins finale

JACKSON -- Sikeston's junior varsity football team ended its season on a positive note Monday, beating Jackson 14-0 for its first win.

"We played pretty good all year and have improved each game," said Sikeston coach Charlie Vickery. "It was just really good for them to get a win, because Jackson had a good jayvee team. Our kids really played well on both sides -- offense and defense."

B.J. Green scored both touchdowns for the Bulldogs. In the second quarter, he scored on a 15-yard TD pass from quarterback Colt Pruitt.

He scored his second touchdown in the third quarter, off a 60-yard halfback pass from Travis Hudson. Ryan Dicus kicked both PATs.

The Bulldogs finish the year with a record of 1-4, but played every team close. Cape Central beat Sikeston twice by scores of 20-14 and 12-7. Poplar Bluff and Blytheville both beat the Bulldogs by a touchdown.

"Our kids fought hard all year," said Vickery. "It was just a matter of getting over the hump. Tonight, we put two good halves together."
