Defending points champ wins Super Pro class at drag strip

Here are the weekend's race results from tracks around the area:

SIKESTON -- Cape Girardeau's Ron Simmons took first place in the Super Pro Class Saturday night. Simmons, last year's points champ, posted his first win of the season with the victory. He ran 6.04 on a 6.05 dial at 113 m.p.h. His reaction time was .666.

Second place went to Fremont's Linden Hills. Mechanical problems foiled his attempt and he red lit.

In the pro class, Caldonia's Blake Jones took top honors. With a 6.51 dial, Jones ran 6.51 at 104 m.p.h. His reaction time was .521. Second place went to Gary "Temple of Doom" Doom from Smithland, Ky. Doom ran 8.63 on a 8.62 dial at 78 m.p.h. His reaction time was .550.

In the E.T. Class, Sikeston's Floyd Foreman posted yet another win. With a 8.75 dial, he ran 8.77 at 77 m.p.h. His reaction time was .553. Second place went to David Leonard, also of Sikeston.

Leonard ran 15.99 on a 11.02 dial at 36 m.p.h. His reaction time was .497 red. Racing will continue at the Sikeston Drag Strip on May 3 with Outlaw Pro Mods.

FARMINGTON -- Timmy Montgomery of Fredericktown sailed to his first feature win of the season Saturday night at the St. Francois County Raceway. Montgomery made a quick pass of Daron Clayton early in the race and then sailed through the 25-lap.

Steve Short and Tommy Worley Jr. were both involved in an accident on the first lap of the feature where both vehicles flipped. Neither driver was reportedly injured, but their vehicles were done for the night.

Terry Babb captured second place with Bob Thoman taking third, Jason Keith fourth and Clayton fifth. They were followed by Jimmy Hurley, Greg Burns, Joey Montgomery, Daniel Adler and Kaley Gharst.

Babb won the first heat race with Timmy Montgomery second and Worley Jr. third. Short won the second heat with Clayton second and Hurley third. Gharst won the third heat with Adler second and Tom Busch third. Joey Montgomery won the "B" main with Keith second and Bill Waite Jr. third. Clayton won the dash with Timmy Montgomery second and Babb third.

In the Hobby Stock class, Kasey Nations of Park Hills picked up his first-ever Hobby Stock feature win at SFCR by holding off the charge of Chuck Adams.

Adams settled for second place with Matt Eaton third, Danny Mosier fourth and Jeremy Greenwalt fifth. They were followed by Doug Savage, Kevin Mosier, Randy Forster, Brad McKinnon and Keith Craig.

Nations won the first heat race with Adams second and Forster third. Greenwalt won the second heat race with Eaton second and Chris Boyd third.
