SIKESTON - Two medium bombers will go to Uncle Sam's fighting air forces carrying a name given them by the school children of Sikeston. "Sikeston Bulldogs" and "Spirit of Sikeston" names will be carried into battle by the two bombers. The naming of the two medium bombers was made possible through a bomber drive sponsored by the Sikeston schools. A 60-day drive was started to raise $175,000 in war bond purchases, $175,000 being the cost of a medium bomber.

SIKESTON - Two persons have retired from the Sikeston International Shoe Company, after each had served more than 30 years, according to F.L. Rudd, superintendent. They were Grace DuBois and L.W. Kernell.

SIKESTON - About 400 area residents are expected to be present Tuesday night when the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce names its Man of the Year. Also scheduled to be presented is a new award, Careerist of the Year. That award is a project of the Women's Division of the Chamber. Guest speaker will be former Sikeston resident Ron Dumay. Master of ceremonies will be Sikeston attorney Kenneth Dement.

SIKESTON - In recognition of outstanding local teachers who provide a positive influence on their students, the Women's Division of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce will honor one of their number. Last year's recipient was Marsha Manning, who was sponsored by her students. The 1993 recipient will be chosen from all the applications received by May 15. The 12th annual "Teacher of the Year" Award will be presented at the May Sikeston Community Teachers Association meeting. The winner will be chosen from the submitted resumes.
