Speakout 8/17

Wednesday, August 17, 2005

I just heard about the Oran town meeting on TV. The new police chief is already being criticized. The young man who spoke complained that the chief was giving tickets for people not wearing a seatbelt. He said something to the effect of "My God this is Oran." He evidently doesn't know that Oran is in Missouri and Missouri has a law that you wear a seatbelt. How many deaths do we have to see before people quit being rebellious to our laws? If you don't like a law get it changed.

I'm so glad that George Bush is going to help everybody who buys a car next year that use less gas. For people who can afford one, that is really great. But the people that can't, that is too bad. I mean utilities rates keep going up and the gas keeps going up. Why doesn't he put a lid on this? I just can't believe that all the rich people haven't made enough money off all these high prices from gas and electric. I know that his dad owns a lot of oil in Texas. So surely this enough. The other presidents would put a lid on it, why doesn't he do something like that? Help everybody.

This is directed to Air Head Michael Jensen. Your recent editorial about lawyers and the assassination of Robert Kennedy is so stupid and ridiculous that it is unbelievable. If you had any knowledge beyond what you could think of, you would understand that there was a terrific story behind that whole deal having to do with Sirhan Sirhan and an unidentified shootist who killed Robert Kennedy. You ought to get with the world.

Reading the "tabloids" can be harmful to your mental health.

I would like to Speakout on "Plug the hole" in Miner. I can remember not too long ago the mayor and the board said they couldn't afford a full-time fire chief so they let him go. After that they got a brand new police car and a new fire truck, back hoe, city pickup. Now they have enough pickups for one a piece and one spare one over there for the workers they got. As best as I can recall a year or so ago they gave the police $1 an hour raise. Now they have gave the whole city a raise. Add all that up that is a pretty good sum of money there because the clerk made a statement in the paper that they are having a hard time because our city hasn't grown any. Before they took over, the past administration, the city grew with the new subdivision, McDonald's, Ruby Tuesday, Skinnie's, annexation, sewer, water lines and so forth. It is never going to grow if they don't quit that bickering over there. A city can't grow on bickering. This is the truth if you don't believe it.

Dear Speakout, I would appreciate it if you could publish this in a Wednesday's edition of the newspaper. A few minutes ago I saw a vehicle make a U-turn in front of one of our downtown merchants. Then the vehicle turned into the police station and began talking to a police officer. As soon as the car made the U-turn, a police officer was right behind him but yet he didn't stop him from making a U-turn or arrest him. Does this mean that our Sikeston Public Safety officers can do wrong and we private citizens can not?

I would like to know if there is anyone out there that knows the number and where to reach Tree USA. It is a tree service. Please put the number in the paper if you know the number of this tree service, Tree USA Tree Service.

We lost a large white rabbit with brown patch on the back of his head. He hopped out of his hutch while we were on vacation. I don't know how long he has been gone, it could be a week or more than that. He is pretty big, about as big as a good size cat. I would like to get him back. If anybody sees a large white rabbit with a brown patch on his back if you could call us at 472-3753 we would love to get this rabbit back.
