Celebrate with SACC
There is a lot for the residents of the Sikeston and Miner areas to think about. Things like city elections, budget crisis, employment concerns and, of course, the war in Iraq. With all this going on it is easy to develop negative feelings or feelings of uncertainty. Times like this are the very reason the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual Awards Banquet. That's right it's the that time again. The 53rd Annual Awards Banquet is coming up Thursday, April 10, at the Sikeston Field House.
The banquet reminds us what is best about the Sikeston area. Our theme this year is "Building the community we imagined ... on a foundation of excellence." The banquet committee chose this theme because our award recipients present and past are the foundation for building a better community. We are honoring individuals, businesses and organizations that go the extra mile to make this a better place to live. Our community is not perfect, no community is, but we have good people who keep trying to fulfill the dream of building the community we imagine.
The awards we will be giving out include Educator of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, Outstanding Jaycee of the Year, SACC Volunteer of the Year, Civic Group of the Year, Small Business of the Year and Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. It is always exciting to see our recipients' reactions and the surprise and delight when they step up to receive their awards.
Yes, even in these tough times, Sikeston has something positive to focus on.
My point is with everything going on around us that is not always good, we really do have something to celebrate. Please come out and join us. It will be an evening of good food, good company and good memories. Tickets to the event can be purchased at the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce, 1 Industrial Drive or by calling 573-471-2498.
